The new people coming to Texas live above ground and all they care about is getting to work and getting to HEB before they close up. They wouldn’t know a blind invertebrate if they stepped on it. And they all get big mortgages, as soon as they get a job. Occasionally they find out the one thing most people don’t want to really get involved in, the rocket docket. This is when your mortgagee, or mortgagor, whichever, gets upset with his cash flow, and decides to sell your house on the county steps. You just go buy another one. This all happens in an average of 23 days, with no judicial involvement at all, and is mostly viewed as progress. They have robots and computers doing all the paperwork. Real estate in Texas is runs pretty fast, one could buy a house, leverage it into a car dealership, cut in some streets and roads (watch out for the karst), get tied up with the rocket docket, and be living in Austin eating at the ARCH, all before football season ends. It takes longer to decide a national championship, though we all know it’s mostly Longhorns.
My goal here is clear. We’re going to slow this process down. We’re going to take better care of the vertebrates who live here, and make sure we’re all secure in our homes, with our gun under the pillow. Maybe it’ll take a little while. Hell may freeze over. That will give those poor souls a nice break too.
