In baseball, generally, you win some, you lose some. Sometimes you’re lucky. Sometimes you’re unlucky. Sometimes you hit a home run, and people just watch. Sometimes you get beaned, and people just watch. Actually, it’s pretty boring. After seven innings or so, you need to go get a hotdog or something and get some energy. But there are rules that everyone goes by, and there’s plenty of umpires to make sure everything is fair. It’s entertaining.
How would you like to go watch a game where the rules provided that every pitch was a strike? Every baserunner was OUT! at first base? If a player’s shirt wasn’t tucked in, he’d be ejected! And the season ticket for your team would be automatically deducted out of your bank every spring, for the convenience. It just wouldn’t be that entertaining.
PHH forecloses eight to ten thousand houses every quarter, and throws the bums out. The score on the quarter is generally something like PHH 8,642, Bums 0. How do they do it? They pay the umps. It’s not entertaining at all. It’s not even good business.
